Think about a simple document with information on SEO and an infographic filled with attractive virtual elements containing the same piece of information. Where will your eyes naturally take you? The human brain is naturally biased towards virtual pieces. As a result, you will find an infographic more memorable than a normal document. This ultimately means that if you want to target your intended audience with relevant information, infographics are one of the most ideal mediums.

In this article, we will go through:

  1. What are Infographics?
  2. Why do Infographics still matter in SEO?
  3. Can Google read infographics?
  4. What is infographic submission in SEO?
  5. How do you create an infographic rank?

What are Infographics?

An infographic is nothing but a piece of information strategically designed in an attractive manner with some virtual elements. In fact, the word ‘infographic’ is a portmanteau combining the words- ‘Information’ and ‘Graphics’.

Marketers have been using attractive infographics for link building and garnering traffic for quite some time now. This is because infographics can communicate boring or detailed data and information in a virtually attractive manner.

To put it briefly, infographics tend to use attractive fonts, bold colors, and illustrations to present the information in a simpler format- one that is also easily understandable.

Why do Infographics still matter in SEO?

Infographics come with their own set of benefits. That said, it is important to optimize them with SEO to get the most of these benefits. This is because infographics are one of the most popular marketing tools that can be used for link building. They are also easily shareable and help to attract more traffic.

One of the many benefits of infographics is the ability to easily share them on various social platforms like Google+, Pinterest, and Instagram. Just by adding social sharing buttons on your blog or website, you can be sure to increase the reach of these visually appealing pieces of content.

At the same time, the chances of fully optimized infographics are higher to show up in the Image search and the SERPs page. They can also be easily used to increase reach and engagement with the help of elements like likes and comments. These are among the various reasons why businesses are always on the lookout for better infographic ideas.

Can Google read Infographics?

It is important to understand that google can’t directly read any image or an infographic. That being said, there are ways in which Google can figure out the content and matter inside an image with the help of certain elements. Our job is to make it easier for search engines to understand our infographics by optimizing these elements. We will talk about these elements in the latter part of this article.

What is Infographic submission in SEO?

Infographics can be submitted on other websites to promote reach which is nothing but infographic submission in SEO. You can submit your infographics by following some simple steps.

  • Create a unique infographic

It is true that content matters. If your infographic is not helping to solve any problem of the intended audience, then there won’t be any conversion or engagement. Focus on your unique traits and create an infographic with unique elements and relevant content.

  • Include keywords

For optimizing any content for SEO, keywords play a major role. Research about the relevant keywords and include them in your infographic as well as every element connected with this infographic.

  • Focus on Submission websites

The next step is the research process. Research about the submission sites and consider their cost, domain authority as well as the kind of content that they post. All these elements will help you make the right decision about infographic submission.

Moreover, sites with no-follow links are excellent to target bloggers who might land up on your infographic and share them. Pinterest is one such site that can be targeted especially for good infographics.

How do you create an Infographic rank?

Building your website rank with the help of infographics is not a new trick. It can be done by optimizing the elements directly connected with the infographic.

  • Researching competition and Keywords

To build any good piece of content it is important to endure that it is what the audience wants to see. This ultimately means that it is ideal to conduct good competitor research to understand the kind of content your competitor is churning out. You should plan your content by keeping these topics in mind and investing in a good design.

Tools like Google Keyword Planner can be easily utilized to find out short and long-tailed keywords which can be included in the infographic.

  • URL

URL is one of the deciding factors that search engines use to show a result for a query. Make it a point to keep your URL short and relevant to the infographic and include one or two important keywords in it.

  • Filename

Filename adds identity to your content, so make sure to choose the correct name for your infographic. Avoid using generic filenames like infographic2.jpg instead, go for specific names connected with the content. For instance, if your infographic is about pollution trends in the year 2015, you can keep the file name as pollution-trends-2015.jpg.

  • ALT text

Suppose there are some issues in the loading process of your infographic. In such a situation an ALT text pops ups. This is usually for people who might be visually impaired. Always try to keep your ALT text as a brief one-line description of your infographic. If we take the above example again, the ALT text can be “Image on summarising the pollution trends in the year 2015”.

  • H1 Tag

Headings can also be used for SEO optimization by giving a proper title to your infographic.

  • Meta description

A meta description is the cluster of words that show up with links on the SERPs page. Always include all the important keywords and an accurate description of your infographic in your meta description.

  • Additional text

Additional text is mostly used as a hack to introduce your infographic to Google. This means writing a short introduction on your infographic before placing it on your website. This introduction should also contain relevant keywords for SEO optimization.
